Welcome to Fashionable Friday! I’ve always been interested in fashion, and now that my children are getting older I have a little more time to devote to this area of my life!
I am so ready for fall weather. It will be here before we know it. I just adore fall fashion. Maybe that is one of the reasons it is my favorite time of year. I have to say last fall I was on the fence for a while on whether or not to buy a pair of leggings. I used to wear them back when they were in style in the 90s, but we ALWAYS wore tunics or dresses with them. Leggings are tights. They are not pants. My hesitation to wearing leggings stemmed from the fact that I had been overweight for so long. I also turned 40 last year and wasn’t sure I was “young enough” for leggings. I also was concerned because I did not want to be associated with a trend that has become somewhat distasteful and immodest.
However, my sweet daughters encouraged me to buy one pair of black leggings. They said 40 was young, that I was in good shape, and that I could pull them off. I had several tunic type tops already so I gave it a shot. So, I purchased some on sale in late winter last year. They are really comfortable, and I enjoyed wearing them a few times before the seasons changed.
I have some fashion advice for young women and those of us who are young at heart:
Leggings are NOT PANTS!!
Leggings are like tights or thick pantyhose. They are not meant to be worn with shorter tops like your jeans. Your front and back hip area is meant to be covered when wearing tights. I feel sure you can deduce why it needs to be covered. I am not even going to explain it, but attention does not need to be drawn to that area. That is better left to the imagination.
